A few brief details . . .
I live and paint in Northumberland, England.
I have always made pictures.
Early childhood encounters with the work of painters such as Rembrandt and Vermeer, left an indelible impression on my mind.
An interest in traditional art soon expanded - in all directions - taking in everything from Titian to Hockney, consuming images with a hungry eye - always ready to take in more food for the mind.
My work is inspired by forms found in nature.
It isn't abstract - but it isn't 'copying nature'. Once an image begins to take shape - it takes on a life of its own.
My travels often give rise to my compositions, I have travelled widely through Europe, and as far as the USA, Malaysia, the South China Sea and the Islands of the Sulu Sea.
Thus, my paintings can just as easily depict tropical waters, or an English sky.
I have a preference for oil paint, but can sometimes use acrylics.
